| Educated at Trinity College, Dublin. Assistant Surgeon Sep 1853. 74th Foot Sep 1854. Dec 1857 appointed to Staff (from 84th Foot). Member Royal College of Surgeons Feb 1859. To Medical Dept. Staff (from 45th Foot) Apr 1862. Surgeon Feb 1863. May 1866 exchanged into Royal Artillery (from 63rd Foot). Surgeon-Major Mar 1873. (Service in China and America at some point previously). Brigade Surgeon Nov 1879. Afghan war served as Principle Medical Officer 2nd Division Peshawar Valley Field Force (first and second Bazar Valley Expeditions), and in second campaign PMO with General Bright's Division, then 2nd Division Kabul Field Force, then Kabul-Kandahar Field Force, and finally entire South Afghanistan Field Force (made CB). Deputy Surgeon-General May 1881. Accompanied General Wolsey as PMO in Egypt 1882 (Tel-el-Kebir, made KCB and Second Class Order of the Medjidie). Surgeon Major-General Jun 1887. PMO Horse Guards, then Gibraltar 1887-88. Surgeon-General for forces of the Madras Presidency 1888 until retirement in Jan 1892. |
