I have always loved Soviet and Communist design, whether in advertising art from the twenties or in its graphic propaganda. These medals share such 'glorious' images, images that unfortunately did not reflect the reality of living under communism. To learn more visit the experts at Soviet Military Awards. The Order of the Red Star was awarded for 'great achievements in defending the USSR' and was sparsely given from 1930-1941. During WWII it was more liberally awarded. This specimen, no.2214306 (likely placing it c.1945) is a type 2. The writing on the obverse says 'workers of the world unite!'
