The Defence of the Caucasus Medal was established May 1st 1944 and was awarded for participation in the defence of the Caucasus area of the Soviet Union between Jul 1942 - Oct 1943. The ornamental border on the obverse is typical of the region. This is a variation 1 1940s issue.
