I have always loved Soviet and Communist design, whether in advertising art from the twenties or in its graphic propaganda. These medals share such 'glorious' images, images that unfortunately did not reflect the reality of living under communism. To learn more visit the experts at Soviet Military Awards. The Order of the Red Banner was the first Soviet order (originally established in 1918, becoming a Soviet award in 1924) and was given for exceptional courage in combat. This example is a Type 4 with the number 526556 (possibly c.1956). The writing on the flag translates as 'Proletariats of the World, Unite!'
