The characters of the seven children are shown in bold sihlouette against the open sky - the freedom of childhood and the forest set against a hint of danger with a Spitfire flying in the distance overhead.

Written by Dennis Potter as a television play, as part of the BBC's Play For Today series, Blue Remembered Hills first aired in 1979 and included Helen Mirren, Robin Ellis, Michael Elphick and John Bird within the cast. Part of its uniqueness (though Potter had used the conceit before) lies in the fact that, while the characters are all children, they are played by adult actors. It tells of the seemingly carefree life of a group of friends during World War II, playing in the Forest of Dean. A growing darkness and the shock ending make this one of Potter's most memorable dramas amongst his numerous highly regarded works.
