T&T Fanzines

Tunnels & Trolls has always enjoyed a loyal following, and it is this following that has produced a brace of fanzines dedicated to the game, including one from Ken St Andre himself. Here I talk about the ones I was able to have some involvement with (many other zines included T&T, but not as their main focus).

Take That You Fiend was edited by John Harrington and included T&T in most issues, though a large portion of the contents were dedicated to the various PBMs that John and his crew ran (such as Dreadnought, Mogul, Crimson & Gold and Title Bout). A long running fanzine that made it past 50 issues. John Harrington was the author of the popular and well-written Tunnels & Trolls Players Companion (almost a 6th edition in itself!), illustrated by Hudson Shaw and Geraint Davies.

Grim Reaper Talented illustrator Geraint Davies ran this fanzine that, though only making it to issue 4, will probably be remembered amongst British T&Ters as the T&T fanzine.

Pendemonium started life at issue 1 as Demon Issue (edited by myself) and changed names at issue 8. At issue 10 it went in to the more capable hands of Matthew de Monti. T&T was a mainstay of its contents, and many of its readers were ardent T&Ters. By issue 19 it was moving more towards comic strips and issue 21 was the last issue published.

Raven lasted 3 issues and was the first British all-T&T zine since Grim Reaper. It was edited by myself and included articles by Mike Stackpole, Kevin Crossman and Matthew Willson as well as publishing Ken St Andre's Gristlegrim dungeon.

Tunnel Talk was a free T&T newsletter produced by Simon Hanks. Simon reproduced Ken St Andre's TnT fanzine in the UK as well as Bob Liddil's new Sorcerer's Apprentice and the Infinite Adventure. It ended its days as a centre-page supplememnt in Pandemonium.

TNT was Ken St Andre's very own US T&T fanzine. It included a wealth of contributors and some themed issues, as well as adventures such as The Gauntlet of Doom. Some issues were produced as double or triple issues.

The Sorcerer's Scrolls, another US fanzine, had a heavy bias to T&T in much the same way as Pandemonium, though it included a wider variety of games and a good many GM adventures. Editor Tori Bergquist was a busy chap as he also ran his own Cliffhanger Games, which produced items such as Mechanical Men and Trivial Death - a T&T Trivial Pursuit equivalent which enjoyed a cover rendered by Liz Danforth.

The Hobbit Hole. US fanzine edited by Brian Penn.
