About 42nd Street |
|
Based on the 1933 Warner Brothers film (which in turn was based on a novel by Bradford Ropes), the stage musical premiered on Broadway in 1980 and in the West End in 1984 (giving a young Catherine Zeta-Jones her first chance in the spotlight). Adapted by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, with music and lyrics by Harry Warren and Al Dubin, it tells the story of young Peggy Sawyer, a small-town chorus girl who arrives on Broadway in search of stardom. |
