Rohai (sign of a heron)
aka: Meikyo Nidan, Rohai Nidan, Matsumura Rohai
The opening mirrors that of Meikyo and touches on it again at several points in the kata. It features fighting moves in kiba-dachi and a number of elbow and vertical-fist techniques. The heron is represented with the one-legged stance, and 360-degree turns into shuto-uke suggest a strong throwing element.
History
The original Rohai kata comes from the Tomari-te school, and it was later developed into three distinct kata, most likely by Itosu Sensei (shodan, nidan and sandan). This kata is Meikyo Nidan, developed by Tetsuhiko Asai in the 1990s and based on the older Matsumora Rohai ~ GE
