Unsu
Unsu (cloud hands)
aka: Unshu
Often thought of as the most advanced kata in the Shotokan syllabus, it is also one of the most athletic, containing a sudden drop to the ground and kick, as well as a 360 degree jump towards the end of the form. It is often chosen for competitions due to its impressive nature.
History
Possibly originating with (or adapted by) Seisho Arakaki and brought into the Shotokan repertoire by Yoshitaka Funakoshi from the founder of Shito Ryu and friend of Gichin Funakoshi, Kenwa Mabuni. ~ GE| < Wankan | back to main kata page | Gosoku > |
