Chinte (unusual hands)
aka: Shoin
Another interesting kata that retains its strong Chinese influence. It contains a number of circular techniques and also demonstrates the importance of body shifting to add power to small movements. Fudo-dachi is used, and the opening tetsui arcs are characteristic, as are the nihon-nukite strikes to the eyes.
History
Thought to originate from the same source as Gankaku (Chinto) and probably has roots that reach much further back. Some styles leave out the last three 'hop' movements, which some interpret merely as a sneaky way to get back to the kata's start point, but it has a fairly devaststing application as well, and it may be that it was dropped or forgotten by other styles. ~ GE
