Jitte contains many open-handed techniques that can be used against an attacker armed with a stick or staff, but work just as well against an unarmed agressor.
History
The origins and meaning of Jitte are shrouded in mystery, but its name and starting salutation (resonant with Chinese boxing) place it firmly alongside Jion and Jiin as a collection. The distinctive yama uke are so-called as they imitate the appearance of the Japanese kanji for mountain. ~ GE
