Afghan War served with Transport Corps in the Kuram Valley Field Force 14 Jan - 7 Apr 1879, then with Punjab Chief's Contingent 6 May 1879 until conclusion of first campaign. Appointed to the command of various posts on the line of communication, conducted the Kapur Thala troops to their State. 1879-80 Angami Naga hill tribes and occupation of Paplongmai. Major Dec 1884. Burma 1887-89, Hazara expedition 1888. Retired to Cheltenham, treasurer of the School of Science, parish warden of St. James's Church and correspondent and treasurer of the parochial national school and Sunday schools, a member of the sub-committee of the Cheltenham Church of England Training Colleges and also governor of Cheltenham Grammar School.
