Notes:

Obtained first commission as cornet 14th Light Dragoons in 1858, moved to 17th Lancers the following year. Abyssinian Expedition 1867-68 (pack train, in second stage of conflict with the Highland section), present at Arogee (mentioned in despatches) and Magdala. Moved to 11th Hussars in 1867, promoted captain 1872, joined 9th Lancers 1873. Served on staff in Afghan War 1878, Brigade Major Quetta Division, Kandahar Field Force, present at Tahkt-i-pul (mentioned in despatches), Girishk and Saif-u-din. Rejoined 9th Lancers at Kabul during second campaign. Commanded 9th Lancers Dec 1884 - Jul 1885, then commanded 87th Regimental District. C.B. 1891. Promoted Major-General in 1897 and commander of Eastern District, then Lieutenant-Governer of Jersey, Nov 1900 (reward for meritorious service) until 1904.

Father: Louis Pascal Abadie of Chateau de Pellegroix, France, mother: Harriet. Married twice. One son was Major Eustace Henry Egremont Abadie, D.S.O. 9th Lancers (served in Boer War, killed World War I, Oct 1914).
