Published Portraits
Officers and others of the Second Anglo-Afghan War 1878-80

This page presents a gallery of portraits that were published, mainly in The Graphic and The Illustrated London News. Very rarely would a Private or NCO get their picture printed, so most available are of officers, with those who were killed in action being favoured. Shadbolt published photos of fallen officers in his biographical volume, which you can see on the internet at the Officers Died website. I have concentrated on the illustrated portraits, here presented in alphabetical order.

A indicates the person was on Roberts' march from Kabul to Kandahar. If you are able to contribute to this project I would be most grateful - you can send scans of 240-400 dpi resoloution to the contact address. Thank you.
