Quite often photos can be repaired and smartened up digitally, providing a new print that can seem as fresh as if it were taken yesterday - or at least as if it had been immune to the ravages of time.

To begin with send me a low resolution scan of the photo and I will let you know if the work can be done. Most photos can be restored, some even if they have chunks missing from them. I will give you a definite quote, usually depending on how complicated the job is. I do not charge my business rates for private, or family-history, customers, but use a lower 'consumer rate'. Often this is from £10-£30 depending on the state of the original.

If you agree to the quote and would like me to go ahead then I'll need a copy of the photo. As repair is all done digitally, all I need is a high resolution scan of the photo, so you can either email it or send it on a CD. If you absolutely have to send the original photo to me then please use Registered Post or Special Delivery (which it shall also be returned by). I'm afraid I can't accept any responsibility for photos that go missing in the post (which has never happened). For scans, standard resolution is 300 dpi (dots per inch) but often it is wise to go up to 400 dpi. If you want the end product to be enlarged then it may even be worth going up to 600 dpi or more. Try and get the best scan you are able, as this is what I will work from.

Please let me know if you have a deadline for the work. I can usually turn the job round within a week. Also let me know what size you'd like the end photo to be (eg. standard 6" x 4" or any others, or just the same size as the original).

When the work is done, I will send you a lower resolution copy by email to see if you are happy with it. If you would like any changes then you can let me know at this point - I'll work with you to get the results you want (as long as they are possible!). If for any reason you are totally unhappy with my work (which has never happened!) and you would like me to abandon the job, then I would ask for 50% of the fee for the work completed. All my clients have been very happy with my work on their photos, but it's best to mention this beforehand.

If you are happy with the work then I can send you a high resolution copy by email or on a CD if you would prefer (no extra cost). If you would like me to get the prints for you, then let me know how many and at what size and I will get them done (usually by taking a CD to Boots or Jessops). This will cost whatever Boots charge, plus an extra 10% for my time. Most people prefer to get their own prints from the digital copy I provide.
